sound and video installation; flute, guitar, breath, echocardiograms

'rubatosis' is a sound and video installation that utilizes echocardiogram videos of the artist’s own heart and breath, flute, and guitar to create a distorted auditory heartbeat. Conceptually, it revolves around the word ‘rubatosis’, coined by John Koenig in The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows (2012), which represents an “unsettling awareness of your own heartbeat” and speaks to concepts surrounding post-humanism and existentialism.
