an abstract artwork in the colours of red, blue, teal, white, grey, and black. while there is writing all throughout the piece, little of it is legible apart from one phrase 'a ball casts a shadow, but where does it land?'

gloss gel image transfer, graphite, charcoal, marker, and oil pastel on canvas

untitled (a ball) is a multimedia artwork that uses and reflects on the process of automatism. Through this process, I merged personal written thoughts with drawing and image transfers to create an abstract work which reveals itself over time. Ultimately this piece is centered around the concept of play and experimentation as a vital part of rest, which our current culture encourages us, and sometimes forces us, to dismiss in favour of 9-5 routine.

This work was pivotal in my exploration of utilizing gel image transfers within painting, expanding my notions of what this genre can represent and share with us.
